Curriculum Vitae
R.G.Stevenson, P.Eng, B.Sc.(Eng)
Robert G. Stevenson is a registered Canadian Professional Engineer with over 50 years
senior and executive design experience in the North American fan industry. He graduated
with Honours from the University of London, U.K. with a B.Sc. (Eng) degree in mechanical
engineering.
In 1957 he emigrated to Canada and joined Sheldons Engineering Limited, one of the largest
fan manufacturing companies in Canada. His career path from Sales Engineer through service
and design supervisor to Vice President and finally to consultant, is outlined below.
Head Office Sales Engineer - joined in 1957
- Answered technical queries from Field Staff, Customers, Engineers, and Contractors.
- Prepared quotations on special fan applications
- Re-designed and prepared all Sheldons’ technical product catalogues.
Field Service Engineer - May 1960
- Extremely successful in solving all field problems.
- Project Engineer for the erection and start-up of largest 2000 HP fans in Canada at major steel company.
Supervising Engineer - June 1963
- Provided direction to Chief Draftsman, 2 Checkers, 18 Senior and Junior Draftsmen, and 3 Engineering Technicians.
- Designed special fans, specialized engineering applications of air handling products, and had direct control of the implementation of a standardized program
for the more standard equipment.
Manager - Product Engineering - April 1966
- Organization and implementation of new design standards for Engineering department and improvement of existing product lines.
- Solely responsible for organizing and managing the engineering function of the company including supervising 20 Draftsmen, 4 Technicians and 2 Engineers.
- Product Development and research of new equipment, and testing of special fan designs.
Manager and Vice President of Engineering - July 1968
- Organized and managed the complete Engineering function of Company.
- Supervised standardization program for new and improved product lines and supervised the R&D function as it related to this program.
- Implemented Company licensee agreements with foreign companies.
- Introduced the computer for use in fan selection and design.
- Member Management Committee, involving implementation of Company policies
and long range planning, market forecasts, and profitability.
Vice President Engineering - USA Subsidiary - September 1977
- Sent to USA subsidiary of the Company to ensure penetration of the heavy
duty fan market.
- Responsible for the total engineering function of the USA subsidiary.
- Organizing and managing engineering, drafting and R & D function.
- Consultant to Sales force on special custom fan designs.
- Responsible for all design and manufacturing procedures for all the Company
products.
- Responsible for company standardization program and its rapid implementation.
Manager and Vice President of Engineering - Canada Head Office - January 1980
- Returned to Sheldons Engineering Limited to take over the position of Vice
President Engineering.
- Totally responsible for the engineering function of the Company, such as Drafting, Engineering and test laboratory functions involving managing and directing a large engineering team.
- Sales liaison on custom fan applications, including problem solving of field problems associated with large high pressure scrubber fans in the Steel industry.
- Creating and implementing of new standards department to accelerate productivity in the engineering department.
Vice President Engineering - (Canada & USA) - June 1983
Sheldons Engineering Ltd (Industrial Division) was purchased by a Danish company in
June 1983 and was renamed Novenco Canada Inc.
- Duties were the same as Vice President of Sheldons Engineering Ltd, until retirement in May 1990.
Argus Fans Inc. - May 1990 to present
At retirement, established a privately-owned company, Argus Fans Inc, to provide quality technical services to the fan industry and companies using fans in their process applications.
- Developed numerous original engineering standards that allowed engineering and sales policy to be computerized.
- Conducted a complete review of the existing Airfoil and B.C. fan lines, resulting in a completed package for a more consistent and comprehensive range of Airfoil and B.C. fans, consisting of basic fan curves, damper effects such as VIV's, ILD's, case and wheel proportions, gauges, and sound levels.
- Designated as certified Welding Engineer for Novenco until September 1992.
- Supervised several over-speed tests on 4 metre diameter Mechanical Draft fans destined for China.
- Improved fan testing facilities, instrument calibration procedures and obtained AMCA certification for the Novenco Test Laboratory.
Skills and Associations
Trouble-shooting service problems is another skill developed from over 50 years experience in the fan business as a senior Engineer and Manager, from solving unusual vibration problems, field performance problems, to the design, repair and up-grading of high wear industrial fans of any make or type.
- Member of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, PEO.
- Canadian technical representative on the ISO committee for "Site Testing of Fans" and
other related ISO committees for approximately 12 years.
- Actively involved as one of the AMCA committee members for the following
