Fan Types:

  1. Airfoil bladed fans in SWSI and DWDI configurations in several series of fan widths.
  2. Backward curved bladed fans in SWSI and DWDI configurations in several series of fan widths.
  3. Radial tip bladed fans in SWSI and DWDI configurations in several series of fan widths.
  4. Radial bladed fans in SWSI configuration in several series of fan widths.
  5. Backward inclined bladed fans in SWSI and DWDI configurations in several fan widths.

"Knowledge comes from the analysis of experience"

Designers and users of heavy-duty industrial fans require practical hands-on knowledge and economically engineered solutions to the problems of designing fans, fan performance and maintenance in the operation of industrial processes.

Argus Fans Inc. has a library of hundreds of well documented data packages and guidelines which provide solutions to fan design and maintenance problems for various fan types, (Listed to the right).

Data packages for most of these fan types are available with sufficient engineering data to enable final designs to be undertaken by competent engineering personnel.

The data packages provided for each impeller type include

  1. Complete basic performance curves for both SWSI and DWDI arrangements. This method of performance presentation enables performance curves to be calculated for any fan size or speed, at any gas density.
  2. Detailed fan impeller and fan case proportions as a function of the impeller diameter that are applicable to any fan size.
  3. Lists of recommended impeller gauges and casing gauges for a wide range of fan sizes and direct-connected speeds that cover the most likely size ranges, up to the maximum tip speed of that fan type.
  4. Part-load performance curves, showing the effect of Variable Inlet Vanes (VIVs) and Inlet Box Damper flow control on the basic fan curve.
  5. Friction losses of VIVs, inlet boxes, and inlet box dampers relative to the velocity through them.
  6. Procedures for calculating sound power levels, (Lw) at any speed and any diameter.
  7. Method for estimating the sound pressure level (Lp) of fans in industrial environments.
  8. Engineering design and fan selection information covering a wide range of applications. With over 50 years experience in the North American fan industry, Argus Fans Inc can provide considerable application and design know-how for problem-solving tasks facing fan users.

Useful guidelines and design philosophy culled from years of hands-on design experience in many branches of design are now available, such as:

  1. Bearing selection and recommended design guidelines.
  2. Formulas for the use of such aerodynamic features as diffuser regain, effect of shaft blockage on performance, suppression of rotating stall and aerodynamic vibration.
  3. Shaft seals and leakages, damper and VIV leakages.
  4. Impeller designs for Rapid temperature swings in hot gas fans.
  5. Recommended wear rates for specific materials and anti-wear techniques.
  6. Recommended tip speed limits for all fan types.
  7. Effect of shaft cooling wheels on bearing cap temperatures.
  8. Calculation of thrust on fan bearings, and application of anti-thrust fins on impellers.
  9. Concrete pedestal design recommendations.
  10. Independent bearing pedestal design with recommended gauges.
  11. Recommended design of channel sub-bases with gauges.
  12. Plus many other practical engineering guidelines based on experience.
